Check it out! Grid Authority 🔗
With all the news about electricity demand increasing, I figured I wanted to create my own grid viewer. I’m excited to share Grid Authority! This first version puts in place the fundamentals of a live grid map, but it’s already proving to be interesting!
As an energy nerd, I’m quite a familiar user of electricitymaps.com and gridstatus.io. However, I kept thinking of features that don’t exist yet! So far, V1 gets the live map and builds upon the wonderful work by all the contributors at Electricity Maps.
✅ Live grid data from US EIA Form 930 data
✅ Renewables and low Carbon (renewables + nuclear) share
✅ View ISO (regional grid authorities) interchanging energy with one another
But that’s just the beginning. I can’t put the cart before the horse and start comparing different data sources without a map! Ultimately Grid Authority will:
☐ Compare different available sources of grid activity for inconsistencies
☐ Highlight where new energy generation is planned to come online
☐ Estimate where data centers are contributing to demand
☐ Reflect the effectiveness of the quickly burgeoning battery storage (BESS) component of grid management
Stay tuned!
